從句作主語時的主謂一致

從句(即主語從句)作主語時，謂語動詞通常用單數。如：

Whoever told you that was lying. 不管這話是誰對你說的，都是撒謊。

Whichever climber gets to the top first will get a ￡5,000 prize. 不管是誰首先爬到山頂都將獲得5000英鎊的獎金。

Whether he has signed the contract or not doesn’t matter. 他是否在合同上簽了字，是無關緊要的。

What he chiefly wished for was a chance to explain. 他主要希望能有一個解釋的機會。

注：當主語從句后接的表語時復數時，有時也可用復數謂語。如：

What she needs is (are) friends. 她需要的是朋友。
