▲be anxious for 為……擔心（擔擾）；渴望　　

We are anxious about his health. 我們都為他的身體擔心。　　

We are really anxious for peace. 我們確實渴望和平。　　

【注】表示擔心或擔憂時，其中有時也可換成 about。如：　　

We’re anxious for [about] his safety. 我們擔心他的安全。　　

▲be bad for 對……有害（不利）；對……不適合　　

Reading in the dark is bad for the eyes. 在暗處閱讀對眼睛有害。　　

Too much rain is bad for the crops. 雨量過多對莊稼不利。　　

This beach is good for swimming but bad for surfing. 這片海灘宜于游泳而不適合作沖浪運動。　　

▲be bound for 動身去；開往　　

The plane is bound for New York. 這架飛機是飛往紐約的。　　

We are bound for movies. Do you want to go with us? 我們要去看電影，你想同我們一起去嗎？　　

▲be celebrated for 以……出名（聞名）　　

He is celebrated for his courage. 他以勇敢聞名。　　

Suzhou is celebrated for her beautiful gardens. 蘇州因其美麗的園林而聞名。　　

▲be concerned for 為……擔心；為……著想，關懷，關心　　

We’re all concerned for her safety. 我們都為她的安全擔憂。　　

She has no thought of self. (=She is always more concerned for other people.) 她從不為自己打算。　　

A good employer should be concerned for the welfare of his workers. 一個好雇主應該關懷他的工人的福利。　　

▲be convenient for 離……不遠；做……很方便；對……來說很方便　　

Our house is convenient for the post office. 我們家離郵局很近便。　　

This place is convenient for the street. 這兒乘電車很方便。　　

If it is convenient for you, please call at four. 如你方便的話，請在4點鐘來。　　

【注】以上各例中的介詞for也可換成to，意思不變。另外注意，不要按漢語習慣將上面最后一句說成：If you are convenient, please call at four.　　

▲be eager for 渴望得到　　

She is eager for a computer. 她渴望有臺電腦。　　

The students are eager for knowledge. 這些學生求知心切。　　

【注】有時說 be eager after。如：　　

The students are eager after knowledge. 這些學生求知心切。　　

▲be enough for 對……是足夠的（充足的）　　

Is 100 enough for all your expenses? 100英鎊夠你的全部開銷嗎?　　

We’ve got 500. Will it be enough for a deposit? 我們有500英鎊了。夠不夠作押金的?　　

▲be essential for 對……是絕對必要的（極為重要的）　　

That is essential for the advance of the revolution here. 那是革命要在這里取得進展所必不可少的。　　

Exercise, fresh air and sleep are essential for the preservation of health. 鍛煉、新鮮空氣和睡眠是保持健康所必需的。　　

▲be famous for 因……而著名（聞名）　　

This place is famous for its scenery. 這個地方以風景出名。　　

France is famous for its wine. 法國因為其葡萄酒而出名。　　

▲be fit for 適合（做）；適合（于）　　

He’s not fit for the work. 他不適合做這項工作。　　

Such a boat is fit only for a calm sea. 這種船只適合在風平浪靜的海上航行。　　

▲be good for 對……有好處；值……；有效期為　　

Milk is good for you. 喝牛奶對你的健康有益。　　

His credit is good for £5,000. 他的信用可以周轉5,000英鎊。　　

This licence is good for one year. 這張執照有效期是1年。　　

▲be grateful for 感謝；對……表示感謝　　

I am grateful for your consideration. 我感謝你的關心。　　

I am grateful to you for your sympathy. 我對你的同情表示感謝。　　

▲be hungry for 渴望得到；渴求　　

The orphan child was hungry for affection. 這孤兒渴望得到慈愛。　　

He is hungry for publicity. 他渴望出名。　　

▲be late for 做……遲到　　

He’s never late for class. 他上課從不遲到。　　

Some of us were late for the meeting. 我們有些人開會遲到了。
