are deserving of 不是進行時態，其實它是系表結構，因為其中的deserving 是形容詞（隨便查本詞典便知），意思是“（幫助、贊揚、獎勵等）應得的，值得的”。(be) deserving of 的意思是“值得……的”“該得……的”：又如：　　

He’s deserving of praise.  他值得贊揚。　　

His efforts are certainly deserving of praise. 他的努力當然值得表彰。　　

It’s a pretty suspect outfit, deserving of the consistent bagging it gets from customers. 這是一個相當靠不住的設備，難怪顧客一直在批評。　　

根據《英語常用詞多用途詞典》：在現代英語中通常只用作及物動詞，且不能用于進行時態。同時應該注意：現在分詞deserving(值得的)在現代英語中已轉化為形容詞，be deserving of 是慣用表達，與用作動詞的 deserve 同義：She deserves death.=She is deserving of death. 她該死。
