■under the name of 用……的名字，以……的名義

He writes under the name of Nimrod. 他用尼姆羅德這個(gè)名字寫作。

■under the necessity of 必須，被迫

You are under the necessity of starting at once. 你必須立即開始（動(dòng)身）。

She was under the necessity of selling all her jewellery. 她被迫變賣了她所有的珠寶。

【注】under the necessity of后通常接動(dòng)名詞，表示“必須做某事”“被迫做某事”。

■under the patronage of 由……提供保護(hù)（贊助、支援）

The theatre is under the patronage of the Arts Council. 那劇院得到了藝術(shù)委員會(huì)的贊助。

■under the pressure of 在……的壓力下

He’s beginning to buckle under the pressure of work. 工作快要把他壓垮了。

Her health broke down under the pressure of work. 工作的壓力把他的身體弄垮了。

■under the pretence of 以……為借口（籍口）

John left early under the pretext of illness. 今天約翰以生病為藉口，提早離開了。

He stayed away from school under the pretence of being ill. 他借口生病不去上學(xué)。

■under the pretext of 以……為借口（籍口）

He came to see me under the pretext of asking my advice when he really wanted to borrow money. 他以請(qǐng)我指教為藉口前來看我，其實(shí)是想借錢。

■under the protection of 受……的保護(hù)

The country was under the protection of France at that time. 當(dāng)時(shí)這個(gè)國家受法國的保護(hù)。

Many British wild animals are now under the protection of the Wildlife and Countryside Act. 英國的許多野生動(dòng)物現(xiàn)在受到《野生生物及鄉(xiāng)野法》的保護(hù)。

■under the pseudonym of 用……筆名

Eric Blair wrote under the pseudonym of George Orwell. 埃里克·布來爾以喬治·奧韋爾為筆名寫作。

He wrote a novel under the pseudonym of Colin Kettle. 他用筆名科林·凱特爾寫了一本小說。

■under the supervision of 在……的管理（監(jiān)督、指導(dǎo)）下

This drug should only be taken under the supervision of a doctor. 此藥須遵醫(yī)囑服用。

Students are not allowed to handle these chemicals unless they are under the supervision of a teacher. 除非有老師的指導(dǎo)，否則學(xué)生不準(zhǔn)動(dòng)用這些化學(xué)藥品。

■under the sway of 在……的控制下，受……的控制

He is under the sway of his friend. 他受他朋友控制。

■under the terms of 根據(jù)……的規(guī)定

Under the terms of the lease you had no right to sublet the property. 根據(jù)租約規(guī)定，你無權(quán)轉(zhuǎn)租物業(yè)。

Under the terms of the contract you must give a week’s notice. 按照合同的規(guī)定，你必須在一星期前發(fā)出通知。

■under the umbrella of 在……保護(hù)（掩護(hù)）下

Primary education comes under the umbrella of local government. 小學(xué)教育受地方政府的保護(hù)。

Police operated under the umbrella of the security forces. 警方在保安部隊(duì)的掩護(hù)下采取了行動(dòng)。
