as far as的本義用法與引申義用法

一、用于本義

其意為“與……一樣遠(yuǎn)”“遠(yuǎn)至……”“一直到……”。如：

Continue as far as the crossroads. 繼續(xù)走，走到十字路口。

We walked as far as the edge of the forest. 我們一直走到了樹(shù)林的邊上。

I’ve read as far as the third chapter. 我已讀到第3章了。

在否定句中也可用 so far as。如：

We didn’t go as [so] far as the others. 我們走得不如其他人遠(yuǎn)。

二、用于引申義

用于引申義時(shí)，有時(shí)也可用 so far as，其主要用法如下：

(1) 表示“就……的限度”“到……的程度”。如：

It’s ready as far as I know. 就我所知已經(jīng)準(zhǔn)備好了。

A：Have you met my brother? 你見(jiàn)過(guò)我弟弟嗎?

B：Not as far as I remember. 我不記得見(jiàn)過(guò)他。

(2) 表示“盡……所能”。如：

I will help you as far as I can. 我將竭盡全力來(lái)幫助你。

His parents supported him as far as they could. 他父母竭盡全力撫養(yǎng)他。

(3) 表示進(jìn)展“達(dá)到某一點(diǎn)為止”。如：

We’ve got as far as collecting our data but we haven’t analysed it yet. 我們已收集了資料，但尚未分析。

三、注意以下慣用搭配

(1) as [so] far as it goes 達(dá)到一定程度（通常并未如愿）

Your plan is a good one as far as it goes, but there are several points you’ve forgotten to consider. 你的計(jì)劃目前看來(lái)還算不錯(cuò)，但有幾點(diǎn)你忘了考慮進(jìn)去。

(2) as far as…is concerned 就……而論，就……而言。如：

She’s the equal of her brother as far as intelligence is concerned. 論智力，她和她哥哥不相上下。

The car is fine as far as the engine is concerned but the bodywork needs a lot of attention. 這輛汽車(chē)發(fā)動(dòng)機(jī)還不錯(cuò)，但車(chē)身需要大修。

有時(shí)可省略as far as…后面的is concerned，但不算普通。如：

As far as the new development plan, I think we ought to be very careful. 關(guān)于新的發(fā)展計(jì)劃，我想我們應(yīng)當(dāng)十分謹(jǐn)慎。

(3) as far as the eye can see 就視力所能及

The land west of the mountains stretched as far as the eye could see. 群山以西的地域一望無(wú)際。
