too…to…句式的用法

一、too…to…句式的結構分析

too…to…句式的結構形式為“too+形容詞或副詞+to+動詞原形”，通常翻譯成“太……而不能……”。如：

She’s too mean to make a donation. 她很小氣，不肯捐款。

Now I’m too busy to discuss it with you. 我現在太忙，沒時間和你討論。

He is too young to know right from wrong. 他太小，還分不清是非。

The ice is too thin to bear your weight. 冰太薄，承受不住你的重量。

The firm is too small to compete against large companies. 該公司太小無法與大公司競爭。

二、for sb引出不定式的邏輯主語

根據語境的需要，不定式前可以帶有一個由介詞for引出的邏輯主語。如：

He’s too old for you to marry. 他比你大得多，你不宜嫁給他。

The box is too heavy for me to carry. 這箱子太重了，我搬不動。

The road was too narrow for cars to pass. 路很窄，汽車過不去。

He spoke rather too quickly for me to understand. 他說得有些太快了 我聽不懂。

三、關于不定式是否帶賓語

一般說來，too…to…句式中的不定式可根據它是否是及物動詞來確定它是否帶賓語。如：

She is too ill to move. 她病得很厲害，動彈不得。 (不定式to move不及物，無需帶賓語)

I’m too short to reach the apples on the tree. 我太矮夠不著樹上的蘋果。 (不定式to reach后帶有賓語the apples on the tree)

不過，如果句子的主語與后面的不定式有動賓關系，則后面的及物動詞不定式不能帶有自己的代詞賓語。如：

This coffee is too hot to drink. 這咖啡太燙，不能喝。(這里的to buy為及物動詞，但由于句子主語this coffee與不定式to drink之間為動賓關系，所以不能再在其后加上代詞it作賓語)

同時要注意，如果句子的主語與后面的不定式之間為動賓關系，同時其中的不定式為不及物動詞，此時就要在不及物動詞后面加上合適的介詞。如：

  The light is too weak to read by. 光線太暗不能看書。(句末的介詞by不能省略)

四、其中的不定式是否可以用被動式

一方面，如果句子主語與其后不定式有動賓關系，其后作為及物動詞的不定式不再帶賓語。但此時的不定式習慣上也不用被動語態（即用主動式表示被動意義）。如：

This problem is too difficult to solve. 這個問題太難，無法解決。

但在某些特別強調被動意義的語境中，也可能用被動式。如：

He spoke in a voice too low to be heard. 他說話的聲音太低，聽不見。

He is too young to be sent to America for advanced study. 他太年輕，不能送到美國去深造。

五、too…to…有時可表示肯定意義

在以下幾種情況，too…to…結構可以表示肯定意義，而不是否定意義：

1. 當不定式前有否定詞修飾時。比較：

He is too wise not to see that. 他很英明不會看不出這一點。

He is too smart not to jump at the chance. 他這人很精明，不會錯過這個機會。

She is too careful not to notice it, isn’t she? 她非常細心，不會不注意到這一點，是嗎？

2. 當副詞too的前面有否定詞修飾時。如：

English is not too difficult to learn. 英語并不太難學。

It is not too late to learn. 只要肯學習，時間并不晚。

But I am not too busy to eat and drink. 可是我還沒忙到頋不上吃喝的程度。

3. 當副詞too后面修飾的形容詞是glad, ready, pleased等表示“積極”意義的詞匯時。如：

I’m only too glad to be of help. 我非常樂意幫忙。

Everyone here is too ready to help others. 這里人們都很樂意幫助他人。

注：這類句子中的too通常含有very之意，且too前通常會有only, just等副詞修飾。
