專有名詞可用作可數名詞嗎

一般說來，專有名詞具有“獨一無二”的含義，因此它通常沒有復數形式，即不可數。但是，專有名詞的獨一無二性通常是相對的，隨著范圍的擴大，這種獨一無二性便會受到破壞。比如在一個小范圍內，可能只有一個Smith，但在一個較大的范圍內則可能有兩個或多個Smiths, 因此我們有時會見到這樣的句子：

There are two Smiths in our school. 我們學校有兩個史密斯。

另外，若專有名詞轉化成了普通名詞，也可以是可數的。如：

A Mrs Tadley is waiting to see you. 一位姓塔德利的夫人正等著見您。

A Mr Smith is asking for the manager. 一位名叫史密斯先生的人要找經理。

When he bought the picture he was told it was a Rubens, but he later found out it was a forgery. 有人告訴他那是魯賓斯的畫，但后來他發現那是贗品。

Thousands of Lei Fengs have emerged in China. 中國涌現出了千千萬萬個雷鋒。

There are indeed some big cities in our country, but there doesn’t seem to be a New York or a Tokyo. 在我國的確有些大城市，可似乎沒有像紐約、東京那樣的城市。
