chance表示“機會”與“希望”在用法上有何區別

1. 表示“機會”，是可數名詞，要表示“做某事的機會”，其后可接 to do sth 或 of doing sth。如：

I never miss a chance to play [of playing] football. 我從不錯過踢足球的機會。

You’d have more chance of catching [to catch] the train if you got a bus to the station instead of walking. 你要是搭公共汽車而不是步行去火車站，就更可能趕上火車。

若要表示做某事對某人來說是一次機會，其后可接for sb to do sth。如：

It’s a good chance for you to meet. 這是你們見面的好機會。

2. 表示“希望”“可能性”，可用作可數名詞或不可數名詞。要表示“做某事的可能性”，通常后接“of+（動）名詞”或由that引導的同位語從句。如：

He has a good chance (no chance, not much chance) of winning. 他很有希望（沒有希望，沒多大希望）獲勝。

There is still chance that you will pass the exam. 你考試及格還是有希望的。

在現代英語中，chance 表示“可能性”時，其后有時也可接不定式，但不如用 of doing sth 普通。

3. take a chance為習語，其意為“冒險”“投機”，不是“獲得機會”。如：

Lorraine didn’t know me but she took a chance on my honesty. 洛蘭并不認識我，但她就我的誠實冒了回險。
