關(guān)閉窗口 from door to door
(1) 表示“挨家挨戶(hù)”。如：
He went from door to door, selling encyclopedias. 他逐門(mén)逐戶(hù)去推銷(xiāo)百科全書(shū)。
The old man went from door to door begging for food. 那個(gè)老人挨家挨戶(hù)地討飯。
(2) 表示“從一家到另一家”。如：
The journey takes about an hour, door to door. 從這家到那家的路程要用一個(gè)小時(shí)。
Door to door, it’s exactly 100 miles to his house. 從我家到他家直接距離正好是100英里。
from ear to ear
通常與表示“笑”的動(dòng)詞連用，表示“咧著嘴笑”。如：
I saw him grinning from ear to ear. 我看見(jiàn)他咧著大嘴笑。
Standing there listening to the song, he caught himself smiling from ear to ear. 她站在那里聽(tīng)那首歌，忽然發(fā)覺(jué)自己咧著嘴笑。
from end to end 從一端到另一端
They arranged the tables end to end. 他們將桌子排成一行。
The channel measures 20 feet from end to end. 這條管道全長(zhǎng)20英尺
We walked along the whole promenade, from end to end. 我們步行從大道的一端到另一端。
from father to son 父子相傳，代代相傳
These skills used to be handed down from father to son. 這些技術(shù)以往往都是父子相傳。
The farm has been handed down from father to son since 1800. 該農(nóng)場(chǎng)自1800年起一直代代相傳。
from foot to foot 雙腳換來(lái)?yè)Q去
He was hopping from foot to foot. 他雙腳換來(lái)?yè)Q去地跳著。
They looked unsure and shifted uneasily from foot to foot. 他們看上去沒(méi)有把握，雙腳在那兒不安地?fù)Q來(lái)?yè)Q去。
from generation to generation 一代一代地
His is a family trade, passed down from generation to generation. 他的生意是家族似的，是一代一代傳下來(lái)的。
These jewels have been passed down in our family from generation to generation for hundreds of years. 這些珠寶在我們家代代相傳已有好幾百年的歷史了。
from hand to hand 從一個(gè)人傳給另一個(gè)人，用手傳遞
Buckets of water were passed from hand to hand to put the fire out. 人們一桶又一桶傳遞著水以便把火撲滅。
(live) from hand to mouth 勉強(qiáng)糊口，剛夠解決溫飽
They can only live from hand to mouth. 他們的日子是只能糊口。
We lived from hand to mouth, never knowing where the next meal was coming from. 我們?nèi)兆舆^(guò)得緊緊巴巴的，從來(lái)是吃了上頓沒(méi)下頓。
有時(shí)可省略 from。如：
We’ve been living hand to mouth ever since I lost my job. 自從我沒(méi)了工作以后，我們的生活僅夠糊口。
from head to foot [toe] 從頭到腳，渾身
He was shaking from head to foot. 他渾身上下都在發(fā)抖。
We were covered from head to foot in mud. 我們從頭到腳都沾滿(mǎn)了爛泥。
