名詞 people的用法

1. people表示“人”“人們”時(shí)，只用單數(shù)形式，但表示復(fù)數(shù)意義；作主語(yǔ)時(shí)謂語(yǔ)用復(fù)數(shù)。如：

People love having cats as pets. 人們喜歡把貓當(dāng)作寵物。

These people have the choice of whether to buy a house or rent one. 這些人可以選擇買房或租房。

Many people enjoy the pleasures and convenience of living in a city centre. 許多人喜歡住在市中心的樂趣和便利。

若要表示“一個(gè)人”，英語(yǔ)不能用 one people，可根據(jù)情況改用 one person, one man, one woman, one boy 等。

2. 表示“民族”時(shí)，為可數(shù)名詞，其前可用不定冠詞，也可有復(fù)數(shù)形式，有時(shí)甚至還可以與數(shù)詞連用。如：

We Chinese are a hardworking people. 我們中國(guó)人是勤勞的人民。

Ireland was inhabited by two peoples. 愛爾蘭居住著兩個(gè)民族。

The English-speaking peoples share a common language. 講英語(yǔ)的各民族擁有共同的語(yǔ)言。

也可與 few, many 等連用。如：

The human race is made up of many different peoples. 人類由許多不同的民族組成。

Few peoples in the world can boast (of) such an old civilization as ours. 世界上沒有幾個(gè)民族有像我國(guó)民族這樣悠久的文化。
