名詞 police的用法

police表示“警察”的總稱，含有“警方”“警察當局”之意，其前通常用the（有時也可省略），形式上是單數，但含義上為復數；用作主語時，謂語要用復數。如：

The police in Britain don’t usually carry guns. 英國警察通常是不帶槍的。

The police have a clear case against the prisoner. 警方掌握了不利于該罪犯的確鑿事實。

Police are searching the area for clues to the murder. 警方正在搜查該地區以尋找謀殺案的線索。

表示“一個警察”時不能用它，即不說a [one] police，而應根據情況用a policeman / a policewoman；但表示多個警察時，可用它。如：

There were over 100 police on duty at the demonstration. 游行期間有100多名警察值勤。
