baggage / luggage的可數性及用法問題

1. baggage主要用于美國英語中，英國英語中通常用luggage。兩者均用于統指“行李”，不具體指一件行李，因此不可數，既不能與不定冠詞連用，也沒有復數形式。如：

20 kg of luggage is the maximum we allow on the flight. 航班乘客最多可攜帶20千克的行李。

Baggage loaded onto an aircraft must be evenly distributed. 飛機載運的行李應均勻放置在各個部位。

即使受到all, some等的修飾，也不能用復數形式。如：

They examined all baggage at the airport. 他們在機場檢查了所有行李。

2. 可用much, little, a little, a lot of, lots of, a large amount of等修飾，但不能用many, few, a few, several等修飾。如：

You’ve got a lot of luggage! 你的行李可真多呀!

“Have you brought much luggage?” “No, not much.”“你帶了很多行李嗎?”“不，不多。”

The railroad gives free transportation for a certain amount of baggage. 一定量的行李鐵路運送是免費的。

3. 若要表示幾件行李，要借助piece或article。如：

five pieces [articles] of baggage 5件行李

How many pieces of baggage have you got? 你有幾件行李?

4. 用于短語bag and baggage，意為“帶著全部財物”（常指突然地或秘密地）。如：

Her tenant left, bag and baggage, without paying the rent. 她的房客未付房租就帶著全部財物離去了。
