有關(guān)examination 的習(xí)慣搭配

有這樣一道題：

He __________ the college entrance examinations but didn’t __________ it.

A. took, pass         B. took part in, pass                           C. took, cross D. took part in, cross

此題應(yīng)選A。容易誤選B。關(guān)于這個(gè)問(wèn)題，考生要注意以下搭配。如：

1. 有的考生根據(jù) take part in(參加某一活動(dòng))和 join(加入某一組織，并成為其中的一成員)這一區(qū)別，推出“參加考試”是用動(dòng)詞 take part in。其實(shí)按照英語(yǔ)習(xí)慣，“參加考試”既不用join, 也不用take part in, 而是用take。如：

He was ill and didn’t take the examination. 他病了，沒(méi)有參加這次考試。

Millions and millions of students take the college entrance examinations every year. 每年都有成千上萬(wàn)的學(xué)生參加高考。

2. 表示“通過(guò)考試”或“考試及格”，英語(yǔ)習(xí)慣上用動(dòng)詞pass, 而不用cross。如：

He didn’t study hard, so he didn’t pass the exam. 他學(xué)習(xí)不努力，所以考試沒(méi)有及格。

3. 表示“考試不及格”或“沒(méi)有通過(guò)考試”，英語(yǔ)習(xí)慣上用動(dòng)詞fail (in)，當(dāng)然也可以用pass的否定式。如：

He failed (in) the maths exam again. 他這次數(shù)學(xué)考試又沒(méi)有及格。

About half of the students didn’t pass the exam. 這次考試中大約有一半學(xué)生沒(méi)及格。
