11. hardware

hardware 本指“五金器具”，在計(jì)算機(jī)語(yǔ)言中指“硬件”，與“軟件”相對(duì)。如：

Our local hardware shop has shut down. 我們當(dāng)?shù)亟?jīng)營(yíng)硬件的商店關(guān)閉了。

Software packages may need complete rewrites to match new hardware. 軟件包可能需要徹底改寫以適應(yīng)新的硬件。

We’ve been having some technical problems with the new hardware. 我們的新硬件一直存在技術(shù)方面的問(wèn)題。

12. icon

icon本指“偶像”“肖像”“圖符”“象征”等，在計(jì)算機(jī)語(yǔ)言中指“圖標(biāo)”。如：

Click on the icon to open the file. 點(diǎn)擊該圖標(biāo)打開(kāi)文件。

Use the mouse to drag the icon to a new position. 用鼠標(biāo)拖動(dòng)圖標(biāo)至新位置。

Clicking on the icon will take you back to the previous web page. 點(diǎn)擊該圖標(biāo)可以返回到上一網(wǎng)頁(yè)。

13. Internet

為計(jì)算機(jī)專有語(yǔ)，意為“互聯(lián)網(wǎng)”“因特網(wǎng)”，總是大寫第一個(gè)字母，且習(xí)慣上要與定冠詞連用。如：

He is browsing the Internet. 他在上網(wǎng)瀏覽信息。

Do you have access to the Internet? 你能上因特網(wǎng)嗎？

We often search the Internet for information. 我們經(jīng)常上互聯(lián)網(wǎng)搜索信息。

Teachers are increasingly conscious of the importance of the Internet. 老師們?cè)絹?lái)越意識(shí)到因特網(wǎng)的重要性。

We were able to get the information we needed from the Internet. 我們能夠從因特網(wǎng)上獲得所需的信息。

注：Internet 有時(shí)也可略成 Net。

14. keyboard

keyboard本指鋼琴、電子琴之類樂(lè)器的按鍵，在計(jì)算機(jī)語(yǔ)言中指“鍵盤”。如：

She ran her fingers along the keyboard. 她的手指在琴鍵上飛快地移動(dòng)。

In an ideal world, you wouldn’t need to use a keyboard at all. 理想的情況是你根本不需要使用鍵盤。

Most computer users have never received any formal keyboard training. 大多數(shù)計(jì)算機(jī)用戶從沒(méi)有接受過(guò)正規(guī)的鍵盤(操作)訓(xùn)練。

15. load

load 本指“裝載”“裝填”“擔(dān)負(fù)”“給(槍)裝子彈”等，在計(jì)算機(jī)語(yǔ)言中指“裝入”。如：

Load the program into the computer. 將程序裝入計(jì)算機(jī)。

A programmer loads software onto a computer. 程序編制員將軟件安裝到計(jì)算機(jī)上。

16. log

log 用作動(dòng)詞本指“伐木”“記入(日志)”，但在計(jì)算機(jī)語(yǔ)言中指“登錄”“注冊(cè)”“進(jìn)入”，通常用于 log in [on]（登錄進(jìn)入計(jì)算機(jī)系統(tǒng)）和log off [out]（退出計(jì)算機(jī)系統(tǒng)）。如：

Try logging off and logging on again. 試著退出系統(tǒng)然后重新登錄。

Log out before switching the computer off. 在關(guān)計(jì)算機(jī)之前要退出系統(tǒng)。

若表示“登錄到……”，則用log on to…或log in to…。如：

You need to log on to your home page. 你需要登錄到首頁(yè)。

In order to log in to the system you have to type in a special password. 為了進(jìn)入該系統(tǒng)，必須打入特殊的通行密碼。
