■on loan 借（來）

He has my car on loan. 他借了我的汽車。

I have the book on loan from the library. 我從圖書館借了這本書。

■on oath 發誓

Is she prepared to give evidence on oath? 他準備發誓作證嗎？

I testify on oath that I have not noticed the accident. 我發誓聲明我沒有注意到這場事故。

■on occasion 偶爾，有時

I meet him on occasion at the club or in the theatre. 我有時在俱樂部或在戲院里遇到他。

He reads detective stories on occasion. 他偶爾閱讀偵探小說。

■on offer 供出售的（尤指削價出售的）

There are only inferior on offer. 只有低檔貨出售。

■on order 定購中，定制中

The shoes are on order and will be shipped next week. 鞋子已經訂購但尚未交付，下個星期就可以裝運了。

■on paper 在紙上；以書面形式；在理論上

The children drew the outline of flowers on paper, then colored them. 孩子們把花的輪廓畫在紙上，然后涂上顏色。

■on purpose 故意地，特意地

■on request 一經要求

【注】其中的on 也可換成 upon。如：

A pamphlet will be sent on [upon] request. 小冊子函索即寄。

■on record 正式記錄的；公開發表的

Last summer was the wettest on record for 50 years. 剛過去的這個夏季是50年來記錄中雨水最多的。

She’s on record as opposing the new law. 她反對這項新法律，這是有案可查的。

■on sale 出售，有售

Every article on view will be on sale. 每件展品都將出售。
