另外，有時可能正反兩種詞序都不錯，但表達的意思不同，甚至相反。如：

Tom alone is coming. 只有湯姆要來。

Tom is coming alone. 湯姆將一個人來。

Only I kissed her last night. 昨晚只有我吻了她(即別人沒吻她)。

I only kissed her last night. 昨晚我只是吻了她(即沒干別的事)。

I kissed only her last night. 昨晚我吻的只有她(即沒吻過別人)。

I kissed her only last night / last night only. 我只是在昨晚才吻了她(即其它時候未吻過)。

Clearly he didn’t say so. 顯然他沒有這樣說。

He didn’t say so clearly. 他說得沒有那么清楚。

I still have some money in hand. 我手頭還有些錢。

Hand in your examination papers now, please. 現在請把考卷交上來。

Before long he got married. 不久他就結婚了。

That had happened long before. 那事老早就發生了。

We won’t stay for long. 我們不會久住。

He longs for friendship. 他渴望友誼。
