偏斜修飾語(yǔ)

一般說(shuō)來(lái)，修飾語(yǔ)在句中的位置不同，有時(shí)會(huì)導(dǎo)致語(yǔ)意的變化。比較：

Only I kissed her last night. 昨晚只有我吻了她（即別人沒(méi)吻她）。

I only kissed her last night. 昨晚只是吻了她（即沒(méi)干別的事）。

I kissed only her last night. 昨晚我吻的只有她（即沒(méi)吻過(guò)別人）。

I kissed her only last night [last night only]. 我只是在昨晚才吻了她（即其他時(shí)候未吻過(guò)她）。

偏斜修飾語(yǔ)（squinting modifier），也叫歧義修飾語(yǔ)，它是一種因在句中位置不當(dāng)而導(dǎo)致語(yǔ)意歧義的修飾語(yǔ)。如：

I have followed the advice sincerely given by the teacher.

The woman scolded the boy for playing with fire bitterly.

第一句中，sincerely 就是“偏斜修飾語(yǔ)”，因?yàn)樗�在句中的位置不�?dāng)，結(jié)果讓人感覺(jué) sincerely 既可理解為修飾follow, 也可理解為修飾given。

第二句中，從句意來(lái)看，bitterly 應(yīng)該是修飾 scolded 的，但在句中卻好像是在修飾playing，從而產(chǎn)生了歧義。

上述兩句若作以下調(diào)整，則句意明確：

I have sincerely followed the advice given by the teacher.

The woman bitterly scolded the boy for playing with matches.
