冠詞類知識點(diǎn)

1．有無冠詞, 意思有別

Can you finish the book in a month or two?

a. Yes, it’s out of ____ quetion.

b. No, it’s out of ____ question.

A. the, the               B. ×, ×                     C. the, ×                  D. ×, the

此題應(yīng)選D。比較：

(1) out of question 沒問題(=without question)

(2) out of the question 根本不可能(=impossible)

僅差一個冠詞, 意思幾乎相反。比較以下類似句：

(1) a. Three months after her marriage, she was with child. 婚后三個月她就懷孕了。

b. She came to see me with a child. 她帶著一個 小孩來看我。

(2) a. Great changes have taken place here since 1978. 1978年以來, 這里發(fā)生了巨大的變化。

b. Now plastics have taken the place of many materials. 現(xiàn)在塑料已代替了許多材料。

(3) a. Mr Smith is in charge of our class. 史密斯先 生管理我們班。

b. Our class is in the charge of Mr Smith. 我們 班由史密斯先生管理。

(4) a. The old woman is in possession of a large fortune. 這個老太婆擁有大宗財產(chǎn)。

b. A large fortune is in the possession of the old woman. 大宗財產(chǎn)掌握在這個老太婆手里。

2. 用冠詞, 表示具體實(shí)體；不用冠詞, 表示相關(guān)活動

a. I saw ten people seated around ____ table.

b. It’s bad manners to blow your nose at ____ table.

A. a, a                      B. ×, ×                     C. a, ×                     D. the, a

此題選C。第一空填不定冠詞(當(dāng)然若是特指也可用定冠詞), 這是把 table當(dāng)作一個具體的“實(shí)體”來看待; 第二空不用冠詞, 因為這里的table已不是一個具體的“實(shí)體”, 而是指與桌子有關(guān)的一項“活動”----吃飯。

英語中有很多這樣的情況：當(dāng)一個名詞表示一個具體的“實(shí)體”(如具體的場所、具體的建筑物等)時, 它可以與冠詞連用; 但當(dāng)它不是表示一個具體的實(shí)體而是表示與之相關(guān)的一項活動時, 則通常不用冠詞。現(xiàn)舉例如下：

(1) go to school 去上學(xué)(讀書)

go to a [the] school 到學(xué)校去(不是讀書)

(2) go to bed 上床睡覺

go to a [the] bed 到床邊去(不是睡覺)

(3) in prison 坐牢

in a [the] prison 在監(jiān)獄里(不是坐牢)

(4) go to sea 當(dāng)海員, 做水手, 出海

go to the sea 到海邊去(不是當(dāng)水手等)

(5) go to church 上教堂做禮拜

go to a [the] church 到教堂去(不是做禮拜)

以上情況還可以有其它結(jié)構(gòu)：at school 在校讀書 / atchurch 在做禮拜 / be in bed 在睡覺 / be sent to prison被關(guān)進(jìn)牢房 等等。

但是以下用法屬例外(其中的冠詞不能少)：go to thecinema 去看電影 / go to the office 去辦公室上班 等
