一般說來, between指兩者, among指三者。但是在現(xiàn)代英語中, among表示三者(以上)的“在……中間”, 其賓語通常是一個(gè)表示籠統(tǒng)數(shù)量或具有復(fù)數(shù)意義的名詞或代詞：among thechildren 在孩子們中間 / among the crowd 在人群中
下列情況between可用于三者(且一般不用among換)：
1. 三者或三者以上的人或物用and連接時(shí)：

2. 對于三者或三者以上的人或物, 若要表示在每兩者之間(即彼此之間)時(shí)：
Don't eat anything between meals. 在正餐之間不要吃零食。
3. 指事物間的區(qū)別或彼此間的關(guān)系時(shí)：
Do you know the difference between the three? 你知道這三者之間的區(qū)別嗎?
4. 表示由于共同合作的結(jié)果時(shí)：
Between them they landed the fish. 他們協(xié)力把魚拖上了岸。
注：在divide, share等表示“分享”之類的動詞之后若接一個(gè)表示三者或三者以上的復(fù)數(shù)名詞, 可用 between(也可用among)：He divided his money between [among] his sixchildren. 他把錢分給了6個(gè)兒子。
