表示“床”，若指的是具體的一張一張的床，其前通常應有冠詞或其它限定詞；若指的是與床有關的活動—睡覺，則通常不用冠詞或其它限定詞。如：
It is time for bed. 是睡覺的時候了。
I’ve put the children to bed. 我已安置孩子們睡覺了。
He sat by the bed, watching TV. 他坐在床邊看電視。
比較 go to bed(上床睡覺)與 go to the bed(到床邊去)：
He went to bed at 10 last night. 他昨晚10點鐘上床睡覺。
He went to the bed and found a red box on it. 他走到床邊，發(fā)現(xiàn)床上有個紅盒子。
有時用不用冠詞與搭配有關，比較：
It’s a bad habit to read in bed. /It’s a bad habit to read
on a [the] bed. 躺在床上看書是個壞習慣。
注：in bed 通常不用冠詞，on the [a] bed 通常要用冠詞。
◆been & gone
1. been 可以是動詞 be 和 go 這兩個動詞的過去分詞。如：
He has been ill for a month. 他已病了一個月。(原形為 be)
He has been there twice. 他去過那兒兩次。(原形為 go)
2. gone 是動詞 go 的過去分詞。如：
He has gone home. 他已回家去了。
注：have been (to) 意為“去過某地”(即已返回)；have gone
(to) 意為“到某地去了”(即不在說話之處)。比較：
He has gone to
He has been to
◆beer n.
1. 表示“啤酒”，作為物質(zhì)名詞，不可數(shù)；表示種類時，可數(shù)。如：
Some people don’t like beer. 有些人不喜歡喝啤酒。
Most beers are made from barley. 大多數(shù)啤酒是大麥釀制的。
2. 在口語中，可表示“一杯(瓶)啤酒”，此時是可數(shù)名詞。如：
Two beers, please. 請來兩杯啤酒。
Would you like a (glass of) bear? 喝杯啤酒嗎?
◆before prep.，conj. & adv.
1. 用作介詞，注意以下用法：
(1) 表示時間，意為“在……以前”，其后只能接點時間或具有點時間意義的其它名詞，而不能接一段時間。如：
I’ll be back before five (o’clock). 我五點前回來。
We arrived there two days before Christmas. 我們于圣誕節(jié)前兩天到達那兒。
(2) 表示在兩者中選擇其一，意為“寧可……而不愿……”。如：
They would die before surrendering. 他們寧死而決不投降。
True men choose death before dishonour. 大丈夫可殺而不可辱。
2. 用作連詞引導時間狀語從句，注意以下用法：
(1) 從句要用一般現(xiàn)在時表示將來，而不能直接用將來時態(tài)。如：
Do it before you forget. 趁早動手，免得忘了。
It may be a long time before we meet again. 我們可能要等很久才能見面。
(2) 以下各句的中文含有否定意味，但其相應的英文卻不能是否定的(因為該否定意味已體現(xiàn)在 before 上)：
Get out before I call the police. 趁我還沒報警，快滾。
He rushed out before I stopped him. 我還沒來得及阻止他，他就沖出去了。
3. 用作副詞，表示“以前”，注意以下用法：
(1) 與具體時間連用(置于其后)，通常與過去完成時連用(多見于賓語從句中)。如：
He said he had told her about it two years before. 他說他兩年前就把那事告訴她了。
(2) 泛指“以前”，不與具體時間連用，可完成時或過去時連用。如：
I (have) read the book before. 我以前讀過這本書。
You should have told me so before. 你早就該告訴我了。
