關(guān)于live and learn的理解與用法
有網(wǎng)友在“英語答疑網(wǎng)”提問如下：

答案是A。不知道如何理解live and learn。好像有句諺語叫Live and learn，它的意思是“活到老學(xué)到老”，但它填入句中意思不通啊！

答案確實(shí)應(yīng)該是A。live and learn 是習(xí)語，在此句表示learn through your mistakes or experience的意思，相當(dāng)于漢語的“從失敗（或經(jīng)驗(yàn)）中吸取教訓(xùn)”“吃一塹，長一智”。
此題對話的背景是：一個人說“我原以為我是可以信任他的，但其實(shí)我不能信任他”，其言外之意就是“信任他可能吃了虧”，于是對話中的另一個人就說“也好吧，吃一塹，長一智”。

2. used for expressing surprise at sth new which you have just heard, read, etc. （表示對剛得知的事情感到驚訝）真是學(xué)到老，學(xué)不了；真想不到：
It says in this book that the Romans were the first to have a state postal service. Well, you live and learn, don’t you? 這本書說羅馬人最先開創(chuàng)了國家郵政業(yè)務(wù)。唉呀，真是不學(xué)不知道，不是嗎？
很顯然，以上兩種用法均與漢語中說的“活到老，學(xué)到老”有一定差距！
三、順便說一說上題中的選項B(live and let live)的用法
其實(shí) live and let live 是句諺語，意思是 used to say that you should accept other people’s opinions and behaviour even though they are different from your own，相當(dāng)于漢語的“自己活也讓別人活”“寬以待人”“互相包容”。如：
If we could all learn to live and let live a little more, the world would be a much happier place. 如果我們都能學(xué)會互相寬容，世界將變得更美好。
