三、doubtless的用法
doubtless的基本意思是“無(wú)疑”“肯定”“大概”等，大致相當(dāng)于certainly, almost certainly等。根據(jù)語(yǔ)義的需要，它在句中的位置比較靈活。
1. 用于句首
Doubtless he’ll be bringing his guitar, as usual. 他很可能跟平常一樣會(huì)帶吉他來(lái)。
Doubtless you will have heard the news already. 到時(shí)候你肯定會(huì)已經(jīng)得知這個(gè)消息了。
Doubtless there would be dozens of photographers waiting for her. 毫無(wú)疑問(wèn)會(huì)有數(shù)十名攝影師等著她。
2. 用于句中
They will doubtless protest, but there’s nothing they can do. 他們肯定會(huì)提出抗議，但也無(wú)能為力。
I’ve more to tell you than you doubtless read in the paper. 你可能從報(bào)上讀到了一些，不過(guò)，我要告訴你更多。
the company would doubtless find the reduced competition to their liking. 該公司肯定會(huì)發(fā)現(xiàn)競(jìng)爭(zhēng)的減少是合他們心意的。

四、相關(guān)聯(lián)想
英語(yǔ)常用詞中只有三個(gè)以 –less 結(jié)尾的副詞，除doubtless外，還有nevertheless 和nonetheless（兩者雖然拼寫(xiě)不同，但意思和用法相同，均表示“然而”“不過(guò)”）。現(xiàn)舉例如下：
We spent too much money on our vacation; nevertheless, we had fun. 我們度假花錢(qián)太多了；不過(guò)我們玩得很開(kāi)心。

盡管本身含有轉(zhuǎn)折的意味，但有時(shí)仍可與表示轉(zhuǎn)折的連詞but連用。如：
I knew a lot about the subject already, but her talk was interesting nevertheless. 我對(duì)這個(gè)問(wèn)題已經(jīng)了解得比較多了，但我覺(jué)得他的講話(huà)很有趣。
The old system had its flaws, but nevertheless it was preferable to the new one. 盡管原來(lái)這個(gè)系統(tǒng)有自己的缺陷，但它仍比這個(gè)新系統(tǒng)要更好。
注：從構(gòu)詞法角度看，doubtless中的-less為后綴，但nevertheless 和nonetheless中的-less并非后綴，因?yàn)橛⒄Z(yǔ)中并沒(méi)有neverthe和nonethe這樣的單詞。
