一、on the contrary 與 to the contrary 的用法

on the contrary與to the contrary 中的 contrary 為名詞，其區(qū)別為：兩者均可表示“相反”，但前者主要用于加強(qiáng)語氣，用以強(qiáng)調(diào)說話者對(duì)前面所提出的情況完全不同意；而后者則僅指反面的情況。如：

It doesn’t seem ugly to me; on the contrary, I think it’s rather beautiful. 我覺得它并不丑，恰恰相反，它挺美。

I know nothing to the contrary. (www.cpsenglish.com) 我不知道任何相反的情況。

二、contrary to 的用法

contrary to 中的 contrary 為形容詞，表示“與……相反”，注意此時(shí)后接介詞to。如：

We must hear opinions contrary to ours. 我們必須聽取相反的意見。

The rain was heavy, but, contrary to our fears, our fields were not flooded. 雨很大，但是和我們擔(dān)心的情況相反，我們的田地沒有受淹。
