officer的主要意思與用法

1. 表示陸軍、空軍或海軍等的“軍官”。如：

Army officers are well paid. 部隊(duì)的軍官收入高。

She is an officer in the Air Force. 她是一位空軍軍官。

2. 表示政府或大機(jī)構(gòu)的“官員”“高級職員”。如：

Bank officers are well-paid. 銀行高級職員薪金高。

We elect the Club’s officers at the first meeting of each year. 我們在每年的第一次會(huì)議上選舉俱樂部官員。

有時(shí)可與official換用，如a public officer [official] 公務(wù)員，a government officer [official] 政府官員，等。

3. 表示“警察”，常用作稱謂。如：

Yes, officer, I saw what happened. 是的，警察先生，我看到了發(fā)生的事。

A：Were you aware of the speed you were driving at, madam? 夫人，你有沒有意識到你當(dāng)時(shí)開車的速度?

B：No, officer. 沒有，警官。

在美國英語中，可以與姓氏連用，表示警官頭銜(a title for a police officer)。如：

Officer Clarke will show you where to go, sir. 先生，克拉克警官會(huì)給你指路的。

英語說police officer并不一定表示“警官”，在許多情況它就表示“警察”，英語詞典對它的解釋是a member of the police。如：

He was too short to become a police officer. 他因身材矮而不能當(dāng)警察。
