clothes與clothing的用法區(qū)別

▲兩者均可表示衣服的統(tǒng)稱，但clothes是一個沒有單數(shù)形式的復(fù)數(shù)名詞（永遠(yuǎn)是復(fù)數(shù)），而clothing則是一個沒有復(fù)數(shù)形式的單數(shù)名詞（永遠(yuǎn)不可數(shù)）。如：

1. clothes

She wears beautiful clothes. 她穿著漂亮的衣服。

She likes to wear expensive clothes. 她喜歡穿價格昂貴的衣服。

She bought a suit of clothes yesterday. 她昨天買了一套衣服。

He never changes his clothes; his trousers are filthy. 他從不換衣服，他的褲子污穢不堪。

2. clothing

Food and clothing are basic necessities. 衣食是基本的生活必需品。

People wear warm clothing in cold weather. 天冷時人們穿暖和的衣服。

▲比較而言，clothes的含義比較具體，而clothing的含義則比較抽象。如：

Hang the clothes on the line. 把這些衣服掛在晾衣繩上。

Our clothing protects us against the cold. 我們的衣服可以御寒。

▲若不考慮其細(xì)微區(qū)別，兩者常可換用。如：

Warm clothes are [clothing is] a must in the mountains. 在山里厚衣服是必不可少的。

另外，在a wolf in sheep’s clothing（披著羊皮的狼）這一習(xí)語中，習(xí)慣上用clothing。如：

They were our worst enemies—wolves in sheep’s clothing. 他們是我們最危險的敵人——是披著羊皮的狼。
