alone, lone, lonely的用法區別與比較 alone, lone, lonely在形式上相似,意義上也有相近之處,但它們的的用法是有區別的。 1. alone 用作形容詞,通常只是表示客觀上的一個人或沒有外人,而不表示寂寞或孤獨等感情色彩,并且在句中只用作表語。如: I want to be alone. 我想一個人呆著。 I am not alone in this opinion. 不只是我一個人有這種想法。 Since her husband’s death, Mrs Kay has been very much alone. 自從丈夫去世后,凱太太就一直是孤單一人。 I’m terrified at the prospect of being alone in the house. 我要是自己呆在一所房子里就很害怕。 I realized they wanted to be alone together so I felt very awkward. 我意識到了他們想要單獨在一起,所以覺得很尷尬。 He is not alone in believing that it may lead to war. 不單他一個人認為那會引起戰爭。 2. lone 表示“孤單的”“單獨的”“無伴的”等,通常只用作定語,有時可與表示類似意義的 lonely 換用。如: A lone rider came galloping towards them. 一個騎著馬的人孤身一人向他們奔馳而來。 Lone women drivers are advised not to pick up hitchhikers. 建議獨自駕車的女子不要讓人搭便車。 We could hear a lone piper player playing in the distance. 我們能聽到遠處有一個人獨自吹奏著風笛。 A lone gunman burst into his house and shot him dead. 一名獨行的持槍者闖進他的屋子,開槍打死了他。 Out of the stillness, a lone bird began to sing. 一只鳥唱起了歌,打破了寂靜。 The only green thing was a lone / solitary pine tree. 綠色的東西只有孤零零的一棵松樹。 但是 lone 一般不表示“寂寞的”“偏僻的”等義。 3. lonely 表示“寂寞的”“孤寂的”,帶有較強感情色彩,相當于 sad because one lacks friends or companions,可用來說明人,也可用來說明 life, days, years 等; 可用作表語或定語。如: When his wife died, he was very lonely. 他的妻子去世后,他感到十分孤獨。 You can be alone without being lonely. 你可以獨處而不感到寂寞。 For all his wealth and fame, he’s a very lonely man. 他雖然又有錢又有名,但很孤獨。 若不帶感情色彩,只是表示“孤單的”“沒有伴侶”(without companions),則通常只用作定語。如: She was a lonely child with few friends. 由于沒什么朋友,她感是一個孤獨的孩子。 Lone parents constitute a great proportion of the poor. 孤獨的父母們占窮人中的大部分。 有時表示“荒涼的”“偏僻的”,用來說明地方,此時多用作定語。如: a solitary bird on the lonely shore 在荒涼海岸上的一只孤鳥 She avoids lonely streets. She is afraid of being mugged. 她避免在沒人的馬路上行走。她怕遭搶劫。 The wooden hut stood on a lonely stretch of beach. 小木屋立于一片人跡罕至的海灘上。 |
