hand的用法、語(yǔ)法和慣用法

1. 用作名詞，本義為“手”，可引申指“人手”等。如：

We are short of hands. 我們?nèi)狈θ耸帧?SPAN lang=EN-US>

Many hands make light work. 人多好辦事。

She was an old hand at diving. 她是潛水老手。

She was a capital hand at embroidery. 她是繡花好手。

Can you give [lend] me a hand? 你幫一下忙好嗎?

2. 漢語(yǔ)說(shuō)“握手”，英語(yǔ)通常用 shake hands (with) 或 shake one’s hand（注意單復(fù)數(shù)的使用）。如：

He shook hands warmly with me.= He shook my hand warmly. 他同我熱情握手。

有時(shí)也說(shuō) shake sb by the hand。如：

He came forward and shook me warmly by the hand. 他走向前來(lái)，熱情地和我握手。

注意，不要按漢語(yǔ)字面意思將“握手”直譯為 hold hands（該搭配指手?jǐn)v手，尤指互相愛(ài)慕地），hold sb’s hand（該搭配指給某人以手把手的指導(dǎo)或支持，或幫助克服困難等）。

3. 漢語(yǔ)說(shuō)“舉手”，一是指表示同意或準(zhǔn)備提問(wèn)或回答問(wèn)題（舉一只手），二是命令對(duì)方舉雙手（如表示投降等），兩種情況下英語(yǔ)通常都用 hands up。如：

Hands up, those who know the answer. 知道答案的請(qǐng)舉手。

Hands up and drop your arms. 舉起手來(lái)，把槍放下。

有時(shí)也用其他表達(dá)。如：

Put up your hand(s) if you have any questions. 有問(wèn)題請(qǐng)舉手。

4. 用作動(dòng)詞，表示“遞給”，可帶雙賓語(yǔ)，若雙賓語(yǔ)易位時(shí)，通常用介詞 to。如：

Please hand me the dictionary.=Please the dictionary tome. 請(qǐng)把詞典遞給我。

He handed her his drink.=He handed his drink to her. 他把他的飲料遞給她。

5. by hand與with one’s hand(s) 意思不同：

(1) by hand 是固定短語(yǔ)，有兩個(gè)意思：一是指“用手工”（而不是用機(jī)器或其他手段）；二是指信件之類的東西由專人遞送（而不是通常郵寄等）。如：

The letter was written by hand. 這封信是用手寫的（即不是打印的）。

I don’t think these shoes are made by hand. 我想這些鞋不是手工做的吧（即是機(jī)器做的）。

Did the letter come by hand or through the post? 這封信是專人送來(lái)的還是郵寄來(lái)的?

(2) with one’s hand(s) 不是固定短語(yǔ)（即是自由短語(yǔ)），只表示一般意義的“用手”（而不是用口，用腳，用眼睛等）。如：

We work with our hands. 我們用手工作。

He hit me with his hand. 他用手打了我。
