life 的用法及可數性

1. 表示“生活”時，若指某種方式的生活，為可數名詞。如：

What a life they had! 他們過著什么樣的生活啊!

He leads a happy life in the country. 他在鄉村過著幸福的生活。

若泛指一般意義的生活，則為不可數名詞。如：

They lacked the basic necessities of life. 他們缺乏生活的基本必需品。

Do you like life in the country better than town life? 你對農村生活比對城市生活還喜歡嗎?

2. 表示“生命”時，若表示泛指意義或抽象意義，為不可數名詞。如：

Stones don’t have life. 石頭沒有生命。

How did life begin? 生命是怎樣開始的?

At last he knew the meaning of life. 他最后了解了生命的意義。

若表示具體的“性命”，則為可數名詞。如：

One careless step may cost a life. 一步不小心可能會喪命。

Several lives were lost in the accident. 這次事故中有好幾個人喪生。

3. 表示“一生”“一輩子”時，通常為可數名詞。如：

She led a long and happy life. 她度過了長壽幸福的一生。

4. 泛指“人生”時為不可數名詞。如：

What was his aim in life? 他人生的目的是什么?

Life is a continual struggle. 人生就是不斷的斗爭。

但表示具體的“生平”“傳記”時，為可數名詞。如：

He has written a new life of Newton. 他寫了一本新的牛頓傳。

5. 表示“生氣”“活力”等，通常為不可數名詞。如：

Children were full of life this morning. 孩子們今天早晨充滿活力。
