news與newspaper的用法

一、news的用法

1. 表示“消息”“報(bào)道”，是不可數(shù)名詞。如：

現(xiàn)在報(bào)道幾條有趣的新聞。

誤：Here are some interesting news.

正：Here is some interesting news.

正：Here are some interesting pieces [items] of news.

2. 表示“有關(guān)……的消息或報(bào)道等”，通常后接介詞 of, about。如：

What’s the latest news about the election? 選舉的最新消息是什么?

I was happy at the news of his return. 聽(tīng)到他歸來(lái)的消息我很高興。

二、newspaper的用法

1. 表示“報(bào)紙”，可視為 news（消息）和paper（紙）組合而成，但兩者均為不可數(shù)名詞，而 newspaper作為供人閱讀或傳遞信息的一種東西——報(bào)紙，它是可數(shù)的。如：

我進(jìn)來(lái)時(shí)他在讀報(bào)紙。

誤：When I entered he was reading a piece of newspaper.

正：When I entered he was reading a newspaper.

比較：a piece of news (paper) 一條新聞（一張紙）

但是值得注意的是：若不是將 newspaper當(dāng)作是供閱讀或傳遞信息的一種東西，而是把它僅僅當(dāng)成一種“紙”來(lái)看待，則也可用作不可數(shù)名詞。如：

Wrap it in (a sheet of) newspaper. 用（張）報(bào)紙把它包起來(lái)。

2. 其前用介詞 in 和 on, 含義有差別：

Look, there is a photo in the newspaper. 瞧，報(bào)上登有一張照片。

Look, there is a photo on the newspaper. 瞧，報(bào)上放有一張照片。
