【分析】此題答案選A，但很容易誤選C，因為受句中使役動詞make的影響，誤認為其后的win the this prize 為賓語補足語。其實使役動詞的賓語補足語應是the first person，其后的to win this prize 為修飾the first person的定語，故用不定式。

02. It is the protection for the trees _________ really matters, rather than how many trees are planted.

A. what                                             B. that  

C. 不填                                             D. which

【分析】此題答案選B，句子其實是一個強調句，強調主語。此句還原成非強調句即為：The protection for the trees really matters, rather than how many trees are planted. 請再看下面一個類似的例子：

It was what he meant rather than what he said _________ annoyed me.

此題也是一個強調句型，空格處應填 that (即選D)，被強調成分為 what he meant rather than what he said。句意為：讓我生氣的不是他說的話，而是他話中的意思。

【分析】此題容易誤選 A，因為許多同學認為在定語從句中能用作定語的關系代詞只有 whose。其實除 whose 可用作定語外，which 也可用作定語，只是含義上有差別：在此情況下，whose 的意思相當于 one’s，而 which 的意思則相當于 that 或 this。比較：

This is Mary, whose [= and her] father we met last week.

Call again at 11, by which time [= and by that time] the meeting should be over.

注：若上面一題中的逗號前有連詞 and，也可選 B(that)。請再看下面一道類似的考題：

You can get there by plane or by boat, but in _________ case it’s very expensive.

A. which                B. this                  C. any                  D. either

首先應排除選項A，因為句中有并列連詞 but；選B也不對，因為 this 是表示“確定”含義的，它與前面的 by plane or by boat 這種不確定性不相符；選項C也不行，因為 any 是表示三者或三者以上的情形，而 by plane or by boat 只有兩種選擇。故答案選D，either 表示“兩者中任意之一”。
