兩者意思基本一樣，但強調重點有所不同：

而 A map is on the table. 則明顯強調 a map，含有類似 It is a map that is on the table (強調句) 的意味。　　

換句話說吧！比如回答 What’s on the table? 一般只需回答 There is a map on the table. 即可，但若提問的人重讀 What’s on the table? 中的 What，我們則會用 A map is on the table. 來回答。
