■像trousers, shorts, jeans 這類的詞，原則上只以復數的形式出現。沒錯，英語不可以說 a trousers, two trousers 而只可以說 a pair of trousers，two pairs of trousers。不過 trousers 用于另一名詞前作定語時，可以用單數，如：trouser pocket（褲袋），trouser legs（褲管），trouser buttons（褲扣）等。　　

■而像 shoe，sock，glove 這樣的詞是可以單數出現的，如可以用 a shoe，two shoes表示1只鞋，2只鞋。而當表示一雙鞋，一雙襪子時，才用a pair of shoes之類的——你的說法很對。　　

■The jeans are too short. / The pair of jeans is too short. / There is a pair of jeans. 都是對的。the jeans和the pair of jeans的區別是：前者既可指“這（那）條牛仔褲”，也可指“這（那）些牛仔褲”，但后者只指“這（那）條牛仔褲”。
