■下面兩句的when均引導的是非限制性定語從句，其中的 when 不能換成 then，但是before when和since when可以分別換成 and before then和and since then（注意這樣轉換必須要有并列連詞）：　　

I went to bed at ten, before when I was reading.　　

We came a week ago, since when the weather has been bad.　　

■對于第三、四句，分析如下：　　

I stay at home on the days that (on which) I am not busy. 一句中的介詞on不宜省略。其中的on the days that 相當于when。　　

We arrived the day that (on which) they left. 一句中的the day 前面可以加上on，也可以不加。若加上on，與上面一句的用法是一樣的；若不加on，則是把the day視為連詞，引導時間狀語從句，意為“當（在）……的那一天”（與the minute, the moment, the instant等用作連詞引導狀語的情況相似）。又如：　　

He is going to visit his aunt the day he arrives in 　　Beijing　　. 他一到北京，就去看他姨媽。　　

The day he returned home, his father was already dead. 他回家的那一天，他的父親已經死了。　　

無論是 the day (that, when) 還是 on the day (that, when)，均相當于when（當……的時候），只是含義比 when 更具體、更明確。　　

■He went home the same evening that he heard the news. 這一句中的 the same evening 前用不用介詞都可以（如用是用on，而不是用in），其區別就好比 the day that 與 on the day that 的情形一樣的，兩者均相當于 when（當……的時候）。
