現在完成時屬“現在”時態，所以與它連用時間狀語必須與“現在”有關。如 in the last 3 years，意思是“在過去的三年中”，它指的是“從三年前一直持續到現在的過去三年”，同樣地，in the past five year, in the last ten years 等也是一樣。　　

又如：in the past 的意思是“過去”，它有兩層意思：一是指純粹的過去，與過去時態連用；二是指從過去持續到現在的過去或對現在影響的過去，與現在完成時連用。　　

in the past three years與three years ago的區別，舉個例子來說吧，比如說話的時間是2011年，那么in the past three years就是指從2009年到2011的三年，而three years ago而是指2009年。
