drop by 表示非正式地順便拜訪，可用作及物或不及物動詞，用作不及物動詞時，可以單獨使用，也可以后接for sth或to do sth；用作及物動詞時，其后通常接某一地點。如：　　

She dropped by after work. 下班后她過來串門。　　

Why don't you drop by for coffee some time? 干嘛不找個時間到我家喝杯咖啡？　　

I just dropped by to check you were OK. 我只是順便來看看你還好吧。　　

Daddy called and asked me to drop by his office. 爸爸打電話來叫我去一下他的辦公室。　　

drop by 表示“順便拜訪”時，也可說成drop round（主要用于英國英語）和drop around（主要用于美國英語）。　　

另外，還有 drop in，也可表示“順便拜訪”，主要用作不及物動詞，表示順路做某事，可以單獨使用，也可后接for sth 或 to do sth；表示順路看望某人，其后通常接 on sb。如：　　

When you are passing my way, please drop in. 你什么時候路過我們家，請來坐坐。　　

She used to drop in for a chat quite often. 她以前會常常進來聊聊天。　　

Drop in to have tea with me if you are ever in town. 你若是到城里來，請順道來和我們一起喝茶。

I thought I’d drop in on you while I was passing. 我曾想路過時就來看看你。
