1. in表示在用什么顏色時，若其后接表示顏色的名詞，通常不用冠詞。如：　　

Additional material is overprinted in red. 附加材料是用紅色加印上的。

Mark the position of all the building sites in black. 用黑色標出所有建筑工地的位置。

in 后所接表示顏色的名詞通常用單數，但有時也用復數，表示不同程度的顏色。如《牛津高階英漢雙解詞典》（第4版）就有這樣一個例子：　　

a picture in greens and blues 以不同深淺的綠色和藍色繪成的畫

paint in watercolour(s) 的意思是“畫水彩畫”，其中的watercolour用單數或復數均可以。　　

2. in cash 與 by check / by cheque / by credit card 所用介詞不同，屬搭配習慣問題。如：　　

Unless you pay by credit card, please pay in cash. 請付現金，除非你使用信用卡。

You won’t be able to pay by check if you don’t have your ID card. 如果你沒有身份證的話，就不能以支票付款了。

但這只是一般情況，英語中有時也說 by cash 也是可能的。如《牛津高階英漢雙解詞典》（第4版）就有這樣一個例子：　　

You can pay by cash or cheque: it comes to the same thing. 你可付現金或支票，都一樣。

從這個句子可以看出，說 by cash 也是可以的，而且它與 in cash 屬同一意思。這個句子當然也可說成：　　

You can pay in cash or by cheque: it comes to the same thing. 你可付現金或支票，都一樣。
