while引導狀語從句的主要用法有兩種

1.表示“當(在)……的時候”。如：

We must strike while the iron is hot. 我們要趁熱打鐵。

Were there any calls for me while I was out? 我出去的時候，有人來過電話嗎?

Stand still while I take your photograph. 我給你拍照時站著不要動。

2.表示“盡管，雖然”。如：

While the work was difficult, it was interesting. 雖然工作有難度，但很有趣。

While I understand what you say, I can’t agree with you. 雖然我理解你的意思，但我還是不同意。

原則上如此，如以下例句均引自權威詞典：

It is necessary that you (should) wear a seat belt while driving.我們應勸誡駕駛員在駕車時系安全帶。  

Tom was attacked by cramp while swimming across the river. 湯姆游泳過河時抽了筋。

Because Jane had once had a bad accident while driving, she was afraid to try it again. 珍妮由于以前開車時發生過大事故，所以不敢再試了。

I always read a lot and I am doing so more than ever while preparing a new TV programme. 我總是大量閱讀，在準備一個新的電視節目期間，我閱讀的東西比平常更多。

但這并不絕對，如果一個-ed分詞是表示狀態的，它也可以放在while之后，可視為其前省略了“主語+be”。如：

The couple took good care of the baby while occupied by their work. 這對夫婦一邊工作，一邊很好地照顧著嬰兒。
