1. 若表示“在某個距離范圍之內”，通常要用within。如：
The house is within five minutes' walk of the station. 房子就在離車站不到五分鐘的路程處。
The village has three pubs within a hundred metres of each other. 這個村子里有三個酒館，相互距離都在一百米以內。
Please stay within hearing. 請不要跑到叫得應的距離以外去。
2. 若表示時間，within表示“在……以內”，而in則根據語境的不同，既可表示“在……以內”，也呆表示“在……后”。如：
She learnt to drive in three weeks. 她用了3個星期學會了開車。
I'll be ready in five minutes. 我5分鐘后可以準備好。
3. 當表示范圍和引導抽象名詞時，有時兩者均可用，但意思有區別。比較：
It is in my power. 這在我的職權范圍之內。（說明事實）
It is within my power. 這在我的控制之下。（說明控制） 回復時間:
