heavy習慣上不與具體的重量連用

■像old, long, tall, deep, thick, wide等形容詞可用于具體的年齡(歷史時間)、長度、高度、深度、厚度、寬度等。如：

He is forty years old. 他四十歲了。

She is only five feet tall. 她只有五英尺高。

The room is ten metres long. 這間屋子長10米。

The fiver is 100 metres wide. 這條河有100米寬。

The water was fifteen feet deep. 水有十五英尺深。

The layer of rock was ten metres thick. 那層巖石有十米厚。

Lake Nyasa is 450 miles long by about 50 miles wide. 麗莎湖450英里長，約50英里寬。

It is estimated that the vase is 2000 years old. 據估計這個花瓶有兩千年歷史。

That vase is valuable. It’s more than 200 years old. 那個花瓶很寶貴，它有二百多年的歷史。

■但heavy不一樣，它不能與具體的表示重量的短語連用。如：

每個箱子重約10公斤。

誤：Each box is about 10 kilos heavy. 

正：Each box is about 10 kilos.

這件行李重20公斤。

誤：This luggage is 20 kilograms heavy.

誤：This luggage is 20 kilograms.
