一道湖南高考英語題的用法問題探討

2009年高考英語的湖南卷有這樣一道題：

— The food here is nice enough.

— My friend ________ me a right place.

A. introduces            B. introduced              C. had introduced          D. was introducing

選對(duì)該題的答案并不難：根據(jù)對(duì)話內(nèi)容可知，此刻說話者就在其朋友介紹的那個(gè)餐館用餐，所以其朋友給他們介紹這家餐館肯定是在此之前，故用一般過去時(shí)。即選 B。

但是，筆者認(rèn)為，這道題中的 My friend introduced me a right place 一句有兩處用法上的問題。

1. introduce是否接雙賓語的問題

從句法上分析，題中 My friend introduced me a right place 一句的謂語動(dòng)詞 introduce 后接的是雙賓語。但它符合英語習(xí)慣嗎？請(qǐng)看以下有關(guān)用法說明：

(1) 我國(guó)英語慣用法泰斗葛傳椝先生曾在其《英語慣用法詞典》（上海譯文出版社）上指出：

introduce不可有雙賓語，如不可說 Allow me to introduce you my friend Mr P. D. Porter，該在 introduce 后面加上 to。

(2) 英國(guó)著名語言學(xué)家 L. G. Alexander 在其《英語詞匯用法手冊(cè)》（外語教學(xué)與研究出版社）指出：

可以說：Marion introduced her friends to Tom.

但不能說：Marion introduced Tom her friends.

(3) 中國(guó)國(guó)際廣播出版社出版的《大學(xué)英語重點(diǎn)詞正誤用法手冊(cè)》（周貞雄編著）在 introduce 詞條給出的正誤句型和有關(guān)分析如下：

讓我把我的朋友介紹給你。

誤：Let me introduce you my friend.

正：Let me introduce my friend to you.

析：introduce（介紹）通常不接雙賓語。

(4) 外文出版社出版的《新時(shí)代英語慣用法詞典》（王福禎主編）在 introduce 詞條指出：

introduce后不可接雙賓語。

由此可見，introduce 后接雙賓語的用法不妥的，是不符合英語慣用法的。

2. 對(duì)introduce的理解和用法問題

雖然一般英漢詞典都將 introduce 譯為“介紹”，但這并不是說漢語中的“介紹”就一定可以用 introduce 來翻譯。下面我們先來看看幾本英語詞典對(duì) introduce 在表示“介紹”時(shí)的解釋：

(1)《劍橋高級(jí)英語詞典》對(duì) introduce 的解釋是：

to tell someone another person’s name the first time that they meet（當(dāng)兩個(gè)人見面時(shí)告訴某人另一個(gè)人的名字）

(2)《朗文當(dāng)代英語詞典》對(duì) introduce 的解釋是：

if you introduce someone to another person, you tell them each other’s names for the first time（如果你把某人介紹給另一個(gè)人，你就是第一次告訴他們彼此的名字）

(3)《牛津高階英漢雙解詞典》第 6 版對(duì) introduce 的相關(guān)解釋如下：

①to tell two or more people who have not met before what each others’ names are（告訴兩個(gè)或多個(gè)原來未曾見面的人他們彼此的名字）

②to tell the audience the name of the person who is going to speak or perform（告訴觀眾講演者或演員的名字）

由此可見，introduce 表示“介紹”時(shí)，主要用于介紹兩個(gè)不認(rèn)識(shí)的互相認(rèn)識(shí)，或是向聽眾或觀眾宣布并介紹演講者等。如：

She introduced me to her brother. 她把我介紹給她哥哥。

It is my pleasure to introduce tonight’s speaker. 我很榮幸來介紹今晚的演講者。

Hi! I thought I’d come over and introduce myself. My name’s Andy. 嗨! 我覺得應(yīng)該過來自我介紹一下。我叫安迪。

On being introduced, British people often shake hands. 英國(guó)人被介紹給別人的時(shí)候常常和對(duì)方握手。

現(xiàn)在我們?cè)賮砜纯催@道來自湖南卷的高考題

— The food here is nice enough. 這兒的食物相當(dāng)不錯(cuò)。

— My friend introduced me a right place. 我的朋友為我介紹了一個(gè)很不錯(cuò)的地方。

很顯然，句中的 introduce 不是在“介紹人們互相認(rèn)識(shí)”，而是在“為某人介紹一個(gè)地方”，而這與 introduce 的用法顯然并不吻合。

事實(shí)上，題干中說的“介紹”，其實(shí)是指“推薦”，所以我們認(rèn)為應(yīng)將句中的 introduce 改為 recommend，即應(yīng)改為：

My friend recommended me a right place.
