副詞very用法紀要

用作副詞，表示“很”“非常”，注意以用法：

◆ 主要用來修飾形容詞或副詞的原級，但不能修飾比較級。如：

我的頭疼好多了，那些藥片確實有效。

誤：My headache’s very better. Those tablets really are effective.

正：My headache’s much better. Those tablets really are effective.

注意，very 不能修飾比較級，但有時可用來修飾最高級（放在定冠詞之后）。如：

I want to give my children the very best education I can afford. 我想給我的孩子們提供我所能提供的最好的教育。

但是，這樣用的very通常不能修飾由 most 構成的最高級。

◆ 用于修飾 own, first, last, next, same 等詞，加強語氣。如：

She was wearing the very same shoes as me. 他與我穿的鞋子完全一樣。

You can keep this for your very own. 你可以把這個留作你自己用。

I found the sentence on the very next page. 我就在下一頁找到了這個句子。

◆ 有些形容詞（如alone, asleep, awake, worth, known等）在需要加強語氣時習慣上不用very修飾，而應改用其他副詞。如：

I was wide awake then. 我當時完全是醒的。

He was fast asleep with his mouth wide open. 他睡得很熟，嘴巴大大地張開著。

He’s well known in the art world. 他在藝術界很有名氣。

The town is well worth a visit. 這個城鎮很值得一看。

◆ 有時可修飾某些介詞短語（主要是用作表語的介詞短語）。如：

She is very like her mother. 她很像她母親。

This machine is very out of date. 這臺機器已經很過時了。

The play is very near the end. 戲很快就要結束了。

◆ 有人認為very不能受how, so修飾，其實這是一種誤解。如：

How very cheeky! 臉皮真厚！

How very much they suffered! 他們受的苦真是太多了!

I was so very happy. 我真的太高興了。

◆ 不要根據漢語意思用 very 去修飾動詞。如：

我們很喜歡這個小男孩。

正：We like the boy very much.

誤：We very like the boy.

我很想留在這兒。

正：I want to stay here very much.

誤：I very want to stay here.

我會非常想念你們的。

正：I shall miss you very much.

誤：I shall very miss you.

◆ very, much, very much的用法區別

(1) 原則上說，very主要修飾形容詞或副詞，much和very much主要用于修飾動詞。但是，修飾副詞too，要用much。如：

It is much too expensive. 這太貴了。

(2) much修飾動詞時，通常只用于否定句或疑問句，而不用于肯定陳述句，除非其前有very, too, so等之類的修飾語，如：

She doesn’t like him much. 她不太喜歡他。

Does she much like him?=Does she like him much? 她很喜歡他嗎?

但習慣上不說：He likes the film much.

不過可以說：He likes the film very (so, too) much. 他很（太）喜歡這部電影。

(3) 單個的much（即沒有修飾語）有時也可能在肯定句修飾動詞，但這只限于regret, admire, prefer, appreciate等少數動詞，且此時的much應置于句中，而不是句末。如：

We much appreciate your invitation. 我們非常感激你的邀請。

(4) very much是much的強調說法，從理論上說，可用much的地方就可用very much。
