force sb to do sth還是force sb do sth

force用作動(dòng)詞，總是及物的，要表示迫使某人做某事，英語(yǔ)通常用 force sb to do sth，而不說(shuō) force sb do sth，這與普通的使役動(dòng)詞不一樣。如：

The reduced income forced him to economize. 收入減少迫使他節(jié)約。

The storm forced us to cancel our meeting. 暴風(fēng)雨迫使我們?nèi)∠�了�?huì)議。

A decrease in sales forced the owners to close the store. 銷(xiāo)售下滑迫使店主關(guān)門(mén)歇業(yè)。

They forced the natives to leave their land by burning their villages. 他們燒毀了土著人的村莊，迫使他們離開(kāi)自己的家園。

注意該結(jié)構(gòu)還通常用于被動(dòng)語(yǔ)態(tài)中。如：

The enemy were at last forced to give in. 敵人終于被迫投降。

I was forced to concede that she might be right. 我不得不承認(rèn)可能是她對(duì)。

He was forced to leave his homeland for political reasons. 由于政治原因，他被迫離開(kāi)了祖國(guó)。

He was often forced to do what I was unwilling to do myself. 他常被迫去做他自己不愿去做的事。

He was forced to accept it as true in the absence of other evidence. 由于沒(méi)有別的證據(jù)，他只好認(rèn)為那是真實(shí)的。

He was forced to leave the country, leaving behind his wife and children. 他被迫離開(kāi)這個(gè)國(guó)家，沒(méi)有帶走妻子和孩子。

I was forced to agree to it, but at heart I didn’t quite agree with it. 我被迫答應(yīng)，但內(nèi)心并不完全同意。

Many of the poorer people were forced to migrate to the cities to look for work. 很多較窮的人都被迫遷移到城市找尋工作。

As new facts became known, the Government was forced to climb down over its handling of the spy scandal. 新的事實(shí)已眾所周知，政府被迫承認(rèn)處理間諜丑事失當(dāng)。

另外注意，英語(yǔ)除可說(shuō)force sb to do sth，也可用force sb into doing sth。如：

He was forced to leave [into leaving] the country. 他被迫離開(kāi)這個(gè)國(guó)家。

They forced her to sign [into signing] the paper. 他們強(qiáng)迫她在文件上簽字。

His arguments forced them to admit [into admitting] that he was right. 他的論據(jù)迫使他們承認(rèn)他是正確的。
