英語能否說 a parent

■英語完全可以說 a parent。

■parent 的意思是“父親”或“母親”，指父母兩人當中的一個，所以若說 a parent，指的就是“父親”或“母親”，盡管我們在漢語翻譯時表父母表示。如：

■若同時指父親和母親，即指父母雙親，要用復數形式parents。如：

The tired children trailed along behind their parents. 孩子們累了，沒精打采地跟在父母后面。

■歸納：a parent 指父親或母親，parent 指父親和母親。注意其中的“或”與“和”。
