b. 當先行項前有形容詞最高級、序數詞或the only, the very, the same, the last，the first, any, some, no, much等修飾時常用that。例如　　

It was the largest map that I ever saw. 　　

No sample that we have received is satisfactory.　　

Please send us any information that you have about the subject.　　

The only thing that matters is to find our way home.　　

These are the very points that puzzle me.　　

c. 指示代詞that, those, same, such作先行項指物時，既可用which，也可用that。例如：　　

The butter we import is less expensive than that which we produce ourselves.　　

The paintings of yours are more famous than those which you painted in 　　France　　.　　

The articles were mainly those that had belonged to the previous owner of the house, and had been bought in the late Mr. Charmond at the auction.　　

d. 在強調句中，多用that, 也可用which。例如：　　

He told me that it was the reform and opening-up policy that brought about a complete change in his life.　　

e. “介詞+關系代詞”引導關系從句時，其中的關系代詞不能用that，只能用which。例如：　　

This is the question about which they have had so much discussion in the past few weeks. (可以改為This is the question that/which they have had so much discussion about in the past few weeks.)　　

Is this the house in which you used to live when you were a child? 相當于 Is this the house (that) you used to live in? (黃永安主編《新編大學英語語法》(華中理工大學出版社 1997年3月第1版) P287)　　

The topic I wrote on is spring.　　

The topic that I wrote on is spring.　　

The topic which I wrote on is spring.　　

The topic on which I wrote is spring. (正式表達法)

f. 在“It’s +名詞+關系從句+關系從句”中，后一個關系從句要用 that引導。例如：　　

It is always the mouth which talks too much that arouses troubles.　　

g. 關系代詞在關系從句中作表語時，多用that或省略。例如：　　

The distance that you are from home is immaterial.　　

另外，the same… as與 the same… that之間有細微的差別。試比較：　　

This is the same (=the very) bag that I lost yesterday. (只有一只包)　　

This is the same bag as I lost yesterday. (=This is like the one that I lost yesterday. 指兩只包一模一樣)
