以下例句也是現在完成時表示“經歷”：　　

He has been abroad many times. 他多次出國。

I have met Mary twice. 我見過瑪麗兩次。

This is the third cake you have eaten. 這你吃的第三塊蛋糕了。

同理，如果主句用“一般過去時”，那么從句應當使用“過去完成時”，體現“過去的過去”這個語法特點。例如：

It was the first time that she had sung in public. 那是她首次公開演唱。

It was the first time that she had lived independently. 那是她第一次獨立生活。

It was the first time that he had wept in nineteen years. 那是他19年來第一次流淚。

It was the first time that I had written with real passion. 這是我第一次滿懷熱情寫作。

It was the first time that the black boy had tasted freedom. 這是黑人男孩第一次嘗到自由的滋味。

It was the first time that little Franz had listened so attentively. 那是小弗朗士第一次如此用心地聽講。

This was the first time he had confronted an armed robber. 這是他第一次面對一個武裝劫匪。

This was the first time I had been treated with such respect. 我是第一次受到這樣的禮遇。

She was astonished; this was the first time she had heard of such things. 她大吃一驚；她第一次聽說過這樣的事。

This was the first time I had seen such a lot of snow. 我第一次見過這么大的雪。

有時，說話人在序數詞之前加上物主代詞，算不算對？例如：

This is my first time that I have visited Beijing.

That is his first time that he has won the game.

這樣的句子雖然不多，但也見到過一些。這種表達，語法上沒有問題，只是在語句上顯得重復：my... I...，his...he...，從修辭角度看，最好不用物主代詞。

注意：如果句子中沒有出現表示“人”的主語，在time之后是不定式、表地點的介詞短語甚至副詞，而不是that從句，這時，需要在first time之前加上物主代詞，表示這個動作的施事者是誰。例如：

This is my first time to eat in your dining hall. 這是我第一次在你們的餐廳用餐。

This is my first time to cook chicken soup. 今天是我第一次做雞湯。

This is my first time to see this spectacle. 這種景觀我還是第一次見到呢。

Passenger: This is my first time in Qingdao. 乘客：這是我第一次來青島。

Sorry, I don’t know that because this is my first time abroad. 對不起，我不知道，這是我第一次出國。

This is my first time in China. I’ve never been here before.這是我第一次來中國，以前從沒來過。

Sorry, I don't have a case history. This is my first time here. 對不起，我沒有病歷。這是我頭一次來這兒。

這也說明了，在This is my first time that I have visited Beijing. 句中用詞重復的原因。
