名詞 poultry的用法

1. poultry表示“家禽”時，只有單數形式，但永遠表示復數意義，所以用作主語時，謂語動詞要用復數形式。如：

The poultry have been fed. 家禽已經喂過飼料了。

Poultry are raised on farms for their eggs or meat. 農場飼養家禽以獲取蛋或肉。

但表示“家禽肉”時，為不可數名詞，此時若用作主語，謂語動詞應用單數形式。如：

There’s not much poultry in the shops. 商店里禽肉不太多。

Poultry is expensive this winter. 今年冬天的家禽肉很貴。

We eat lots of fish and poultry, but we prefer the latter. 我們吃很多魚和家禽，但更喜歡后者。

注：poultry表示“家禽”的總稱，所以習慣上不說a poultry，也不說some poultries。

2. 英語中的meat可用于統指食用的動物肉，但根據英語習慣，poultry(家禽肉)不包括在meat之內。
