句意：安琪爾和我出發(fā)走向另一種生活、另一個(gè)世界，我們希望它比我們?cè)诠聝涸簳r(shí)所知道的世界更快樂。

誤用：The weather of Beijing is just as cold as that of Lanzhou, but colder than Shanghai.

改為：The weather of Beijing is just as cold as that of Lanzhou, but colder than that of Shanghai.

說明：同樣的事物才能相比較，句中的weather和Wuhan不具有可比性，只有“北京的天氣”和“上海的天氣”才能放在一起比較。類似地：A grandparent’s job is easier than that of a parent. 祖父母的任務(wù)比父母的任務(wù)要輕松一些。(R2) A dog’s intelligence is much greater than that of a cat. 狗的智慧比貓的高得多。(R2)

句意：北京的氣候和蘭州一樣冷，但比上海冷。

誤用：The tulip is the more beautiful flower in John’s garden.

改為：The tulip is the most beautiful flower in John’s garden.

析：表示“……是……中最……的”時(shí)，當(dāng)句子中修飾的名詞是單數(shù)的時(shí)候，應(yīng)該用“主語(yǔ) + be + the + 形容詞/ 副詞最高級(jí) + 單數(shù)名詞”表示，不能用比較級(jí)。如果要用比較級(jí)表達(dá)最高級(jí)的意思，則可以使用“主語(yǔ) + be + 形容詞 / 副詞比較級(jí) + than + any other + 名詞單數(shù)”來表示。上面的句子也可表達(dá)成 Tulip is more beautiful than any other flowers in John’s garden。

句意：郁金香是約翰的花園中最美麗的花朵。

誤用：I feel pretty old when I see how the young generation behaves.

改為：I feel pretty old when I see how the younger generation behaves.

說明：漢語(yǔ)說“年輕一代”“老一代”等，沒有比較意味，但說成英語(yǔ)分別是 the younger generation, the older generation, 這里通常要用比較級(jí)（而不用原級(jí)）。又如：Many representatives of the older generation were there. 老一輩的各類人都在那里。 順便說一句，漢語(yǔ)說“高等教育”，說成英語(yǔ)是 higher education，而不能是 high education，如：The government’s policy on higher education is a success. 政府的高等教育政策很成功。

句意：看到年輕一代的舉止行為，我覺得我太老了。

誤用：The US emits as eight times carbon dioxide as lndia, despite having less than a third the population.

改為：The US emits eight times as much carbon dioxide as lndia, despite having less than a third the population.

說明：修飾 as…as…結(jié)構(gòu)的副詞應(yīng)置于第一個(gè) as 之前，而不是之后。又如：This room is three times as large as that one. 這個(gè)房間是那個(gè)房間的三個(gè)大。There are five times as many widows as widowers. 寡婦人數(shù)是鰥夫人數(shù)的五倍。

句意：盡管美國(guó)的人口不到印度的三分之一，但其二氧化碳的排放量卻是印度的八倍。
