3. 兩者都可與 more 連用，其區別仍然是 many more之后接復數名詞，much more 之后接不可數名詞。如：

There are many more people than I expected. 到的人比我預計的要多得多。

There’s much more water in the river than usual. 河里的水比往常多得多。

4. 一般不單獨用作表語，但在正式文體中，有時也可以用作表語(尤其是與 few 對比使用時)。如：

His faults are many. 他的錯誤很多。

We are many but they are few. 我們人多而他們人少。

注：在口語中或非正式文體中一般不這樣用。如：

屋里有許多人。

不說：The people in the room are many.

應說：There are many people in the room.

5. 注意“many a＋單數可數名詞”的用法：形式上為單數，但意義上為復數(意為“許多”)，若用作主語，其謂語通常與形式一致而不與意義一致(即謂語用單數)。如：

Many a student has seen the film. 許多學生看過這部電影。

We have been there many a time. 我們去過那兒許多次。

注：“many a＋單數名詞”是一個十分正式的結構，在口語或非正式文體中一般都用 many＋復數名詞”代之。

◆map n.

表示“在地圖上”，可用介詞 in 或 on。如：

You can see it in the map. 你可以在地圖上看到它。

Look it out in the map. 把它從地圖上找出來。

If you don’t know where it is, look it up on the map. 如果你不知道它在什么地方，請查地圖。

◆market n.

1. 表示具體的買賣東西的“市場”，是可數名詞。如：

There are a lot of small markets in this town. 這個鎮里有許多小市場。

2. 表示“去市場”，通常可省略冠詞。如：

He went to (the) market to sell what he had made. 他去市場賣自制品。

有時表示“趕集”。如：

The market is held twice a week. 每周有兩次趕集。

3. 有時用于引申義，表示相對于商品和銷售意義上的“市場”或“市場需求”(可數或不可數)。如：

The product will find a good market in Europe. 這種產品會在歐洲有好的銷路。

There is no (not much, a poor) market for these goods. 這些商品沒有銷路(銷路不好，銷路很差)。

4. 用于 on the market, 意為“出售”、“上市”等。如：

These computers aren’t yet on the market. 這些計算機還未上市。

注：有時用介詞 in。如：

The house is in the market. 這座房子待售。

◆marriage n.

1. 表示“結婚”、“婚姻”，視含義的具體與抽象可用作可數或不可數名詞。如：

Marriage is for life. 結婚是終身大事。

Their marriage is a happy one. 他們的婚姻是幸福的。

2. 表示與某人結婚，可用介詞 to或 with。一般說來，強調動作時多用 to, 強調狀態時多用 with。如：

I was surprised at her marriage to her teacher. 聽說她嫁給了她的老師，我感到很驚訝。

My marriage with Mary is a happy one. 我與瑪麗的婚姻生活很幸福。

以下同義表達大致同義，均表示 A 與 B 的結婚：

the marriage of [between] A and B

＝the marriage of A to [with] B

比較：動詞 marry 作為及物動詞，其后一般不用介詞 to, with等介詞。
