二、表示度量等的復(fù)合形容詞

基數(shù)詞可與名詞 (一般用單數(shù)) 構(gòu)成復(fù)合形容詞表示時(shí)間、度量等，例如：

1. 年齡。如：

The marrow donor is her 14-month-old sister. 骨髓捐獻(xiàn)者是她14個(gè)月大的妹妹。

She was charged with abducting a six-month-old child. 她被控誘拐一個(gè)6個(gè)月大的孩子。

I don’t think most nine-year-old children have their teeth brushed. 我想大多數(shù)9歲的孩子不會(huì)讓別人幫著刷牙。

She didn’t want her fourteen-year-old daughter coming home at all hours of the morning. 她不希望自己14歲的女兒凌晨才回家。

2. 面積 / 體積 / 容積。如：

This model is powered by a 1.8-litre petrol engine. 這一型號(hào)用1.8 升汽油發(fā)動(dòng)機(jī)驅(qū)動(dòng)。

3. (持續(xù))時(shí)間 / 距離。如：

The seven-hour armed siege at the school ended peacefully. 對(duì)這所學(xué)校的7 小時(shí)武裝包圍平安結(jié)束了。

Heavy fighting erupted there today after a two-day ceasefire. 在停火兩天后，今天那里爆發(fā)了激烈的戰(zhàn)斗。

NASA has started a 10-year search for extraterrestrial intelligence. 美國(guó)航空航天局已經(jīng)啟動(dòng)了一個(gè)為期10年的尋找外星人的項(xiàng)目。

4. 長(zhǎng)度 / 深度。如：

5. 價(jià)格 / 價(jià)值。如：

I’ll need a five-hundred-dollar retainer. 我將收取500美元的定金。

The multibillion-dollar fitness industry rakes in fat profits from our hunger to look good. 數(shù)十億美元的健身產(chǎn)業(yè)利用我們的愛(ài)美之心賺取巨額利潤(rùn)。

7. 重量。如：

a ten-stone man 一位體重140磅的男子

a five-kilo bag of flour 一個(gè)5公斤的面粉袋

He caught a 6.28-pound salmon in the annual fishing derby at Lake Winnipesaukee. 他在溫尼珀索基湖舉行的一年一度的釣魚(yú)比賽中釣到了一條重 6.28 磅的鮭魚(yú)。

注：序數(shù)詞也可以用于復(fù)合形容詞。如：

The shop deals in second-hand books. 這家商店經(jīng)營(yíng)二手書(shū)籍。

Both players both won their first-round matches in aggressive style. 兩名選手均以進(jìn)攻性風(fēng)格在他們的第一輪比賽中獲勝。
