三、用前綴和后綴構(gòu)成的復(fù)合形容詞

復(fù)合形容詞可由各種前綴和后綴構(gòu)成（即在本來是形容詞的前或后加上某些表示特定意義的前綴或后綴構(gòu)成復(fù)合形容詞）。如：

We offer interest-free credit on all new cars. 所有新車我們都提供無息貸款服務(wù)。

Sports drinks have caught on as consumers have become more health-conscious. 隨著消費者健康意識的增強，運動型飲料開始流行起來。

He began to insist upon a bullet-proof limousine, just for peace of mind. 他開始堅持要防彈豪華轎車，僅僅是為了安心而已。

They experimented successfully on the plants to discover disease-resistant varieties. 他們成功地對植物進行了實驗，發(fā)現(xiàn)了抗病品種。

四、用well, bad, ill, poorly等構(gòu)成的復(fù)合形容詞

——well

There is a special need for well-trained teachers. 特別需要訓(xùn)練有素的老師。

At last she managed to have a well-deserved rest. 她終于爭取到了完全應(yīng)該得到的休息。

Tonight’s speaker is a well-known writer and journalist. 今晚的講話人是出名的作家兼新聞記者。

The well-established firm closed down with the loss of 600 jobs. 那家地位鞏固的公司倒閉了，造成600 個職位喪失。

The hotel has a well-run restaurant offering a good choice of dishes. 這家賓館內(nèi)有一家經(jīng)營得很好的餐廳，提供各種各樣的飯菜。

A well-designed sports shoe should absorb the impact on the 28 bones in each foot. 設(shè)計精良的運動鞋應(yīng)能減輕沖擊力以保護每只腳的28 塊骨頭。

——bad

It is his illness that makes him bad-tempered. 他因為生病，脾氣變得暴躁。

He acknowledges that when he’s tired he gets bad-tempered. 他承認自己累了就會發(fā)脾氣。

Eric was really bad-mannered. I’m never going to invite him again. 埃里克真沒禮貌。我永遠不想再請他來了。

When his headaches developed Nick became bad-tempered and even violent. 尼克出現(xiàn)頭痛時脾氣就變得很差，甚至還會動粗。

——ill

They accepted her claim that she had been ill-treated. 他們相信她受虐待的說法。

She tucked her ill-gotten gains into her purse and left. 她把不義之財塞入錢包后就離開了。

There’s nothing worse than for a parent to ill-treat a child. 沒有什么比父母虐待自己的小孩那樣更糟糕。

Once again an official inquiry has spoken of weak management and ill-trained workers. 官方調(diào)查又一次提到了管理不力與工人缺乏訓(xùn)練的問題。

The British are considered ill-mannered, badly dressed and unsophisticated. 英國人被認為缺乏教養(yǎng)、衣著邋遢、頭腦簡單。
